President Moon’s national security adviser says S. Korea to assess environmental impact of THAAD deployment

President Moon Jae-in’s national security adviser has admitted that the full installation of the U.S. THAAD missile defense battery in South Korea could take longer than expected. Chung Eui-yong , head of the National Security Office, suggested on Thursday that Seoul was seeking a full-scale environmental impact study, before further progress is made in the deployment. Chung’s remarks came upon his arrival in Washington, where he’s due to hold talks with senior U.S. officials, and make arrangements for a summit between Presidents Moon and Trump. The THAAD battery in Korea achieved initial operational capability in late April with two launchers, and four additional launchers have since arrived to beef up the system.
