Round-up: Today’s top stories in the morning papers in Korea (April 10, 2017)
1. The conflict within former President Park Geun-hye’s legal representative eventually came to surface. Four lawyers of the team resigned as Mr Yoo who has defended Park after the impeachment motion was launched ignored other lawyers’ opinion and made dogmatic decisions.
We entrusted the country to the person who cannot even manage her legal representative. It serves her right!
2. According to a public opinion poll, two in three Koreans oppose that former President Park Geun-hye should neither be pardoned nor reinstated if she is found guilty of charges. There are some differences in political parties, 25.1% are for Park’s pardon whereas 67.6% are against it.
Whoever the next successor is, he/she should understand Korea’s public sentiment.
3. There is rising controversy over two former presidents Chun Doo-hwan and Park Geun-hye on whether they should be addressed as ‘former president’ or ‘Mr/Ms.’ People find it unreasonable to them former president as Chun used the unconstitutional method to become president whereas Park was impeached.
They should be grateful to be called Mr/Ms. Don’t you think, Chun Doo-hwan and Park Geun-hye?
