Round-up: Today’s top stories in the morning papers in Korea (March 9, 2017)
1. Korea’s Constitutional Court says that it will announce the date of its ruling for an impeachment trial against President Park Geun-hye on Friday 10th (11 am). The trial goes as pundits previously expected, which the court will give its decision on or before March 13th.
Do we have a presidential election on May 9th then? We should not count chickens before they hatch.
2. The heir apparent of Samsung Group Lee Jae-yong who was arrested for giving 44.3 billion in bribes to President Park Geun-hye and her confidante Choi Soon-sil will face trial today. The fierce legal battle is expected to unfold as Samsung claims that Mr. Lee is innocent and that they are the victim as they were unable to ignore Cheong Wa Dae’s pressure.
Samsung argues that they are the victim of Cheong Wa Dae. Then whose side is ParkSaMo (President Park Geun-hye loyalists) who have supported Lee Jae-yong?
