Round-up: Today’s top stories in the morning papers in Korea (September 7, 2016)
1. Instead of actively probing senior presidential secretary Woo Byung-woo, the special investigation team did not make any progress until now. Korean judicial circles point out that the team is likely to complete the probe ‘empty-handed’ as it only reveals ‘petty crimes’ of Woo’s in-laws.
Does Mr Woo get unfair treatment because he is a ‘dirt spoon’ from Bongwha in Gyeongsangbuk-do Province?
2. US President Barack Obama suddenly cancelled bilateral talks with the President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte after his obscenity-laden rant against Obama. After cancelling the meeting with Philippines President, Obama held bilateral talks with South Korean President Park Geun-hye instead.
I think South Korea is the only country that the US relies on. South Korea would never swear. The country would never disobey.
3. South Korea’s beer exports hit a record high last year on the back of ‘chimaek’, the combination of chicken and beer from Korean wave. Outbound shipments of South Korean beer are expected to set a new record this year as the exports increase significantly.
Korean beer is notorious for its bad taste but must be good when eating with chicken.
