Round-up: Today’s top stories in the morning papers in Korea (July 19, 2016)


1. Five Korean automakers used harmful methanol windshield washer fluid for domestic vehicles while they used harmless ethanol for export cars. There is rising controversy over reverse discrimination between domestic and export products in the motor industry as the harmful effects of methanol washer fluid is recently known to the public.

The automobile companies think their countrymen as a pushover. It is a matter of time that Koreans may feel discriminated in international markets. Whew.

2. There are growing numbers of people who enjoy eating dog meat feel guilty about pleasure (guilty pleasure). As many as 10 million people raise a dog; more dog owners feel negative about eating dog meat.

Well, guilty pleasure. I will say no more about that. Do I look like a coward?


3. Police arrested two foreigners who ran naked in Shinchon on the 7th. They stay in South Korea as exchange students in the local university, and they ran around the streets naked as a penalty of “truth or dare” game.

Did they run along the streets naked because the world is full of pretense? I want to know the truth.
